Stenciling for Service

A few months ago we signed up for Disney's Give a Day, Get a Day promotion. At first we were thinking... "SCORE!!! Free tickets to Disneyland for doing absolutely nothing AWESOME!" Little did we know that we'd walk away from this feeling a sense of purpose and like we can change the world.

Robert and I were able to find a service project that directly helps to keep the Ocean's clean. Sage & Aurora have come to love the beach as much as Robert and I do and so we were glad that they had a ball giving service. We met with the San Diego Ocean's Foundation for a some quick tips for spray painting the signs and they set us loose with all the supplies needed to paint signs above the Storm Drains in the San Altos, Lemon Grove, Ca area.

***Disclaimer***

Aurora looks like a little homeless child in these pictures because I was sick with walking pneumonia and didn't have the energy to do her hair.

While we were waiting for paint to dry we talked with the kids about littering and keeping trash picked up so it doesn't get washed into the storm drains and get washed out into the Ocean where it can hurt the many animals who the Ocean, home. Sage has been talking about it non-stop and tells all his friends not to be litter-bugs, it's so cute!
We've decided to make this a bi-monthly family activity. There's a lot of storm drains out there that needs signs.
