2012-2013 Curriculum

I finally had time to sit down and pick out Sage and Aurora's 2012-2013 curriculum. I'm really happy with this years choices and cannot wait for the school year to start.

Sage will be doing regular Homeschooling again this year with me at home. I really love the one on one time this gives us and he really thrives off of it.

Aurora will be participating in the A.I.M Program which means she'll go in two days a week from 8:30 - 2:30 and do all of her Language Arts, Math and Science with an actual class. It will be really good for her to be with the other kids since she is such a social butterfly and she needs the structure.

Both Sage and Aurora will be doing Social Studies at home. This year we will learn about the Native Americans and focus on one Tribe a month.

It's going to another great year of Homeschooling and we are all looking forward to it!

A Year Later...

I finally have the school room the way I want it. It took almost a year of rearranging furniture but it's finally arranged perfectly. I still have to get a comforter for the guest bed so everything matches and get some better bookcases but I'm really liking it so far. We even have a computer station set up with our old laptop for the kids online curriculum. Hopefully by the end of summer I can have it finished.

Silly Girls

The girls were talking about their boyfriends and when I pulled out the camera they stopped. I talked them into answering a few questions about them. They are so silly.

Practice Makes Perfect

I need to brag a bit about my Boy. He is so amazing! It literally took him one weekend to get this down and now It's all he does. I love my little dare-devil.

It's About Time!

We've been trying for years to get Sage to ride his bike without the training wheels with no luck. Well, ever since Robert and I bought bikes he's been getting up the nerve to try and finally this weekend he did it. He spend an hour practicing without training wheels and pedals and then finally today he did it with pedals. He's not a pro yet, but I'm sure in no time he'll be all over the place.

Tire Swing

The kids have been begging for a tire swing for quite awhile. Last month we had to have a tire completely replaced so we brought it home to turn into a swing. They've been out there all day today and boy are they gonna need a bath tonight.

Happy Easter!

Easter is my third favorite Holiday. My Mom loved Easter because it meant she could pull out her crazy huge bunny collection. We bought new baskets this year because I saw this cupcake one at Target and fell in love and knew that Aurora would too.

The Easter Bunny was able to get some games for the xbox 360 kinect on Amazon for a fraction of the normal price so each of the kids got a game and a super cool Angry Birds game for the family.

Sage has been obsessed with Star Wars lately so he got a LEGO Star Wars game, Darth Vader eggs, jelly belly scented bubbles and a chocolate bunny.

 Aurora loves all things cupcakes and Disney so she got the Disneyland Adventures game, cupcake eggs, jelly belly scented bubbles and a chocolate bunny.

They also got new church clothes.

They are definitely growing up way too fast. I miss my little babies, but they are growing into wonderful big kids. I love my Family!

Conference Traditions

We have a lot of fun at Conference time. While Robert goes to the Priesthood session on Saturday the kids and I have Drive-In basket movie night with lots of yummy snacks.

During the other Conference sessions we use our snack buckets to get special treats. Each bucket is labeled with a word and picture and filled with a treat.

When a speaker says any of the assigned words they get to grab a treat for their bowl. It's tons of fun and keeps them quiet and listening without too many disruptions.

Poor Thing...

When Aurora gets sick she REALLY gets sick. She spent all day today in her Grandma's chair with a barf bowl. I took this after I convinced her that a bath would help her feel better, she's still looks really pathetic though. 

It breaks my heart to see her hurting and knowing that I can't do anything about it makes it even worse. She even told me that her heart was broken so she couldn't love anymore and that made her sad because love is very important our family. We use that word hundreds of times a day, my children should never wonder If their Daddy and Mommy love them, I think it's engraved in their brains.

Sage - Progress Report

This little big boy has come so far in the last school year and we couldn't be more proud of him. In September 2011 he was at a kindergarten level in reading and math and a first grade level in everything else. 

After almost a year of Homeschooling he is now at a second grade almost third grade reading level, his math skills have improved and while he might not have all his math facts memorized he does know how to solve them using manipulative's. He excels at science, history and art and loves to learn everything he can about the world around him. He struggles with his learning disabilities but he is making great strides in his education.

Beautiful Butterflies!

Aurora received a butterfly garden kit for her birthday so we sent off for the caterpillars and for Science we spent 22 days watching and observing them grow and make their chrysalises. It was definitely an amazing experience and one I hope they will never forget.

After 10 days the butterflies started emerging from their chrysalises. It took a total of 4 days for all 5 of them to hatch. It was a beautiful experience to watch one of God's many miracles.



The best part is that it counted for Science curriculum for both of the kids schooling!

Happy Birthday Dr. Suess!

We are huge Dr. Seuss fans so every year we do something fun to celebrate. This year I decided to make sugar cookies to look like green eggs. The kids thought they were so cool!

We made Cat in the Hat hats and read some of our all-time favorite books.

We even did a fun math activity after we read One Fish, Two Fish in which the kids were given a bag of colored goldfish crackers and a graph and had to sort the fish by color and fill in the chart and compare them to each others. They loved it!

We ate some quick lunch and then headed out to see THE LORAX on opening day. Sage and Aurora still tell me how it was the best school day ever!
